River Crossing Playback Theatre
River Crossing Playback Theatre (formerly Healing York Playback) is a theatre project of South Central PA formed to build community through the dramatic portrayal of real-life stories. Begun as a spin-off of the Healing York Initiative in 2007, we continue to provide an avenue for building community bridges and opening dialog around charged issues through the magic of Playback Theatre.
Playback Theatre is a simple improvisational form in which members of the audience tell stories and watch them played back on the spot. As the stories come alive on stage, audience and players become entwined in a community dialogue that is both deeply personal and powerfully universal.
In 2009, we have grown to include a core ensemble of seven players, and we offer periodic workshops and performances to the Susquehanna River Valley community and beyond. Join us in learning this compelling interactive art! Or consider where this form of community expression might be useful in a group or neighborhood near you. Subscribe to stay in touch!

Seven Playback Players Graduate, Unveil "River Crossing Playback"
Posted June 3rd, 2009 by christopherfitzI am excited to share news from our Playback Theatre ensemble and its last five months of hard work. Seven of us graduated on May 30, 2009 from a forty hour course that included essential Playback forms and a range of related skills and practices. And we have arrived at a new name for the group: River Crossing Playback Theatre.

New Season Begins with New Faces, Stories & Focus
Posted October 22nd, 2008 by River CrossingHealing York Playback has begun its second season with a powerful one-day workshop that left everyone wanting more. With fourteen in attendance, Chris Fitz facilitated the day's training for many who'd never seen Playback before and some who'd only tried it once. He was joined by Roshne Davidson who conducted a session and Bill Grow who faciliated a afternoon visioning session on "Strategic Vision for the Demonstrating of Hope in York." The day concluded with an agreement that all if not most of us would continue meeting beginning next month.

Audience Raves at Premier Performance
Posted April 15th, 2008 by christopherfitzI've been doing Playback Theatre for over four years now, and knew by the end of the evening on April 12th, that we'd had a special performance and stories. But even i was surprised to hear from strangers after the show about how this kind of artistic form was needed for community dialog in York. Hey folks, we're not running for president. But it was encouraging.
