Christopher Fitz
I am a facilitator, trainer, theatre artist and nonprofit administrator convinced that the privileges i was born with give me responsibility to make my community and world a better place. Since breakdancing on the playground in fifth grade, i keep rediscovering a love of dance, theatre and music, while developing a professional and academic life in international development and conflict resolution. I graduated from the William Penn Performing Arts high school in York, Pennsylvania and picked up alternative theatre and modern dance at Hampshire and Amherst Colleges where i also learned social dances -- swing, contra, salsa and Argentine tango. My principal artistic passions are Contact Improv and Playback Theatre, and i've been practicing them vigorously since 2003 in Washington, DC, Germany, touring the U.S. and now in South Central PA. Meanwhile, i've begun working locally, returning to my hometown and getting involved in efforts to bridge racial and class divides here. I am active in the Society of Friends and the Church of the Brethren and currently live in Marietta, PA with my wife, Tabea and our dear little ones, Noah and Joana.

Audience Raves at Premier Performance
Posted April 15th, 2008 by christopherfitzI've been doing Playback Theatre for over four years now, and knew by the end of the evening on April 12th, that we'd had a special performance and stories. But even i was surprised to hear from strangers after the show about how this kind of artistic form was needed for community dialog in York. Hey folks, we're not running for president. But it was encouraging.

Playback, Privilege and Remembering Those Not Here
Posted January 10th, 2008 by Healing York Pl...Sunday was a special Playback session with our core Healing York group. Practicing for the first time at the historic York Friends Meeting House on West Philadelphia Street, we enjoyed the cozy and seemingly sacred space and the sense of support it offered our work and play.

New Playback Sampler in York or Lancaster?
Posted November 8th, 2007 by Healing York Pl...Last week our Playback group tried a new form of playing stories solo and had some really wonderful results. A "red thread" developed along the lines of gender and "being comfortable in our own skin" and provoked some powerful reflection in each of us.
Now the end of this calendar year is drawing near and the holiday season with it. I am seriously considering planning another Playback Sampler workshop in York and/or Lancaster (Marietta, probably).
