Discover your deeper "archetypal" stories. Learn an exciting form of improv!
Join a team that weaves community. Play!
This course is an introduction to Playback Theatre using exercises to explore four common "archetypes," characters that appear again and again in our lives and in every culture's stories, legends and dreams. With the Jungian work of Carol Pearson as a reference, we will begin to learn the archetypal nature of stories--both our own and others'--and to play them out more fully using basic improvisational forms of Playback Theatre.
Want to play more? Move your body? Use your voice? Get spontaneous? Give back to your community? Developed 35 years ago and practiced around the world, Playback Theatre brings to life the stories of its audiences. It can be a powerful vehicle for healing, self-discovery and community dialogue. Join us and find out how.
In Playback Theatre, audience members tell personal stories and watch an ensemble bring them to life on stage, a process often considered healing for players and audience alike. Through incremental warm-ups, games and physical acting, you will learn Playback forms, explore your own archetypal story-scape and gain trust with fellow players. Over ten sessions, 3 hours each, we will play with the essential elements of this exciting discipline:*
Jan. 5: JOURNEY BEGINS: "Essence" & Short Forms
Jan. 12: LISTENING & THE CAREGIVER with Contact Improv
Jan. 19: TAKING SPACE & THE WARRIOR: Stage Decisions & Long Form Stories*
Jan. 26: SURPRISE & THE JESTER: Being Serious about Play
Feb. 2: MASTERY & THE KING/QUEEN: Finding the Story's End
Feb. 9: WEAVING THE STORY: Balancing archetypes in performance & real life
